Sports fundraising may start out as a way to earn those perfect uniforms. But after successfully campaigning, a team may go on to collect enough money for better practice space, newer equipment and maybe even a training camp that produces group cohesion and team work.
It is not very difficult to get spectators and fans involved in supporting their team.
Sports games concession stands are not hard to set up and can be maintained easily by parent's of team members, other students or supporters. Drinks, popcorn, candy and hot dogs help the crowd relieve the thirst and hunger they worked up supporting the team.
The most recognized sports fundraising activity is the candy sale. Candy bars can be purchased through various companies and team members can sell them throughout the school and their neighborhood because they are easy to transport. A person is more likely to support the team when the players themselves are actually involved. One company, World's Finest ® Chocolate, allows a group's name, logo, message and/or picture to be included on the wrapper, and, of course, there is always the classic Hershey's candy bar. Another candy that is easy to sell is lollipops. Lollipops come in a variety of flavors and can be customized into the shape of a baseball, basketball, football or soccer ball.
Half-time sports fundraising is another fabulous way to get school spirit and attendance up. Raffle tickets can be sold weeks previous to the game and at half-time the winning numbers are announced. Each contestant then has the chance to throw, kick or hit their way to a prize, which can be donated by a local business in lieu of free advertisement.
If fancy sports fundraising is not possible, there are always the traditional ideas. Hold a walk-a-thon; have people gain supporters willing to donate a certain amount for every mile walked. Wash cars for the community; especially during the summer, this can be a great success. Send the team door to door asking for support; people have a hard time turning down a child with a goal. Lastly, word of mouth is always a great way to get the ball rolling; let people know the essentials, what you need and how much money it will cost.
